"Eternal Father Bless Our Land … bring the Family
Back!" is the theme for Jamaica Homecoming 2006 and throughout
the year 2007 the focus will be placed on children and the elderly
and all the permutations of the Jamaican family.
Jamaica Homecoming 2006 is an eight day call for Jamaicans at
home and abroad to join hands and hearts across Jamaica in practical
and positive ways of expressing the spirit and values and attitudes
of the Motto, Anthem and Pledge (MAP) of Jamaica.
An initiative of Hands Across Jamaica For Righteousness, Jamaica
Homecoming 2006 is now in its third year and will this year, focus
on the family, with particular emphasis on raising children with the
values and attitudes that are presented in the MAP in order to build
a lasting nation.
This practice run for events throughout the year leading up to
Jamaica Homecoming 2007 is designed to create a climate of hope in
which to effect a change in the moral and ethical conduct of the
Jamaican people. It hopes to facilitate the healing and restoration
of the land to the principles of righteousness upon which the nation
was established at independence.
Under the general HANDS theme "Raise the Standard, Change
the Nation" with the focus on the Christian principles which
are enshrined in MAP, the focus will also take into account the
gains to the nation of the transference of a trans-generational
wealth of wisdom from the elderly, the church family, the community
family, the national family and the global family of humanity.
In 2006, Jamaica Homecoming will feature many events including
daily morning prayers around the park; a church service; an opening
ceremony and Rally on the MAP; A Children’s Rally; a Family Expo;
an evening of Hands and Hearts in Praise; a community walk; a
Portmore roundabout rally; a public lecture and forum; workdays and
gifts and a fundraiser Women’s Luncheon. The grand finale will be
a Concert of Magnificent Music.
